We love the direction the Aerie ads have taken. The quote "Time to think real. Time to get real. No supermodels. No retouching. Because...The Real You is Sexy."
It is great that Aerie is now showing real girls as they are. We wish more ads would follow. It takes so much pressure off. No one is perfect. But these girls are still the "ideal" shape and size, we didn't really see any flaws. We would have loved to see more of a variety in the ads. And the ads still focus on being sexy - how about replacing sexy with beautiful? Or amazing? Anything less objectifying. Thank you Aerie for making a step in the right direction, but lets keep walking. Here is a link to an amazing video. A musical artist gets a "makeover" on Photoshop during the video. The effects aren't real, but it the video "makes it clear that the only thing you really need to take a beautiful portrait is to simply have a human being in it. Does it matter who that human is? Not really — because you can change everything about him or her." I love the natural beauty we each hold. Unfortunatley, we are not raised in a society that fully embraces this notion. http://www.policymic.com/articles/79585/watch-this-woman-get-a-complete-photoshop-makeover-in-3-minutes-flat
